How To Descale and Clean Your Kettle
Once you have all the above items, you are ready to go. Below are the easy-to-follow steps for descaling and cleaning your kettle.
1. Descale and Clean The Removable Mesh Filter
- Remove your kettle’s removable mesh filter
- Put the removable mesh filter in a bowl
- Pour some vinegar on the mesh filter until it is covered with the vinegar
- Wait until all the limescale on the mesh filter dissolves, and then use the toothbrush to brush and clean off any leftover limescale
- Rinse the mesh filter with tap water and place it somewhere to dry
2. Descale The Kettle and Clean Inside The Kettle
- Use the measuring cup to measure and fill the kettle with vinegar.
- Make sure the vinegar covers everywhere inside the kettle that has limescale stain, residue and build-up
- You don’t have to fill up to the kettle maximum for water
- Plug the kettle into a socket and switch it on
- After the kettle comes to a boil, it should automatically switch itself off.
- Empty the kettle of all the liquid inside it. This liquid is now a mixture of vinegar and limescale
- Check inside the kettle. If there’s any limescale left inside it, repeat steps 1 to 6 again
- Fill the kettle with water until the water reaches the kettle’s maximum
- Switch the kettle on and wait for it to boil
- Once the kettle reaches boiling point, it should automatically switch off, but if it doesn’t, switch it off yourself and then empty the water inside your kitchen sink.
- Repeat steps 8 to 10 again to ensure all unpleasant taste is removed from the kettle
3. Clean The Outside Of The Kettle
Once you’ve cleaned the mesh filter and the inside of the kettle, the next thing to do is clean the exterior of the kettle. Here are the steps for doing just that:
- Soak a sponge slightly with water
- Use the wet sponge to dab and collect some baking soda
- Now, use the sponge which now has baking soda on it, to clean the exterior of the kettle.
- Apply some water to the toothbrush and then dab it on the baking soda
- Use the toothbrush which now has baking soda on it, to clean the ‘mouth’ section of the kettle.
- Rinse and dry the whole kettle.
4. Clean The Base
If your kettle has a detachable 360-base, spray some multipurpose cleaner on a clean cloth and use it to wipe off any dirt that is on the 360-base.
